New Map!
Monday December 14, 2009 9:35 pm

Just for your viewing pleasure, a new map has been put on the Geology page. This shows individual schools rather than whole states, so that statistics are more accurate.

Success at Heritage!
Wednesday November 11, 2009 3:12 pm

On Monday, it was proposed to a committee from the Evergreen Public Schools that a Geology course should appear in the course catalog this spring. After a few minutes discussion, the committee decided that Geology at Heritage was needed and that students should have the option to take the class. (cont. on 'News' page)

This is the first success for Rocks!

Now, the campaign to get students to sign up begins. Please help spread the word! If you're feeling courageous, you can even post bulletins and status updates on Myspace and Facebook. (I've made images you can post, too!)

Four down, two to go!
Thursday October 08, 2009 3:41 pm

As of today, there are officially 83 students that have said they are interested in taking a geology course at Heritage. This is so exciting! My goal is to get 100 students that are interested in taking Geology before our presentation to the administration. Thanks a lot, everybody! :)

One more down, four to go!
Tuesday October 06, 2009 5:44 pm

After collecting lists from another teacher, there are officially 56 students at Heritage that would be interested in Geology. Way to go Mrs. Lebard and Mrs. Brown! Let's keep it up!

Student express interest!
Monday October 05, 2009 10:28 pm

Last week, six science teachers at Heritage were asked to talk to their students about a new geology course and to collect the names of any student interested in taking the new course.

Already, one teacher has given me their list of interested students. I am proud to say that this one list surpasses the minimum number of students that need to express interest. (cont. on 'News' page)

I think that it is safe to say that Earth Sciences are wanted by students at Heritage and I am excited to see where this project goes! If interest at Heritage is so large, I am curious to know whether students throughout the whole district would express the same interest.

On another note, I have been in contact with some high-profile geologists who have given me the contact information of other geologists that are working toward the same cause in Washington State. Let's get rolling!

Talking to the Students
Thursday October 01, 2009 3:30 pm

This week, several science teachers at Heritage began talking to their students about future Geology classes and encouraged those interested to sign up.

I encourage everyone to look around the site for more information and ways to get involved. And, of course, emails are greatly appreciated. (cont. on 'News' page)

After a significant amount of students have expressed interest, the idea will be proposed to Heritage administration. In order for Rocks to take flight next year, school administrators must approve the new course before forecasting in the spring.

Tom Archer, head of Evergreen Public School's science curriculum, is supportive of Rocks and confirmed added incentive to school administration: the district already has appropriate textbooks for the course. As a result, financial impact to the schools will be virtually non-existent. With that in mind, one can hope that school administrators will "okay" the new course district-wide.

Taking the first steps
Saturday July 25, 2009 10:10 pm

Mark your calendars, because today was the first step in making history. I have attempted to contact the head of the Curriculum Department in the Evergreen Public Schools, which will hopefully be the beginning of creating our Geology courses. Things can never happen too soon :)

In other news, the website is growing larger everyday! Five of the eight main navigation links are now working! Please feel free to look around!

We're online (again!)
Saturday July 25, 2009 12:54 am

So I began to post a news article this evening, to find out that the software I use wasn't letting me log in! Problematic? I think so!

And with that, I had to find a way to fix the problem, or download some new software. With great difficulty, I installed new software and can post news again!
